Still feeling overwhelmed in the morning? Try this evening routine to make mornings smoother.
I was feeling overwhelmed in the mornings and miserable. I couldnt understand why we all just melted down and had emotional outbursts in the morning almost everyday before school.
I wasnt consistent with the boys, some mornings if I was too busy making breakfast the boys would just go on the sofa with a blanket and put on cartoons until I got us ready for school.
Almost every single morning before school felt like chaos. Someone was upset. Someone was distracted. Someone was melting down. Most mornings ended with emotional outbursts before we even made it out the door.
I couldn’t understand why our mornings felt so hard all the time.
The chaos became such a stressful way to start the day that I actually started dreading mornings altogether.
Until I tried this simple evening routine and morning routine, really simple promise!
Nothing fancy. Nothing strict. Just small repeated habits that gave us a little stability and somewhere to focus our energy.
Simple Evening Routine For Kids
This eventing routine for kids helped our mornings feel calmer, more predictable, and a little less overwhelming. They helped me, and I hope they can help you too.
We don’t have to live every morning like that.
Choosing Outfits the Night Before
One simple thing that helped us so much was checking outfits the night before.
Nothing complicated.
I just ask my boys to make sure they have what they want to wear the next day. Pants? Shirt? Socks? Done.
This helps on two levels.

First, it gives them a chance to slow down before bed and think about the next day. It creates a calmer transition into nighttime instead of rushing around in the morning.
Second, it helps avoid morning stress.
We remember things like pajama day, PE class, picture day, or special school events ahead of time instead of discovering them five minutes before leaving the house.
And honestly? One of the biggest benefits is realizing ahead of time that the favorite hoodie or jeans are still sitting in the laundry basket. When we notice the night before, we actually have time to wash it.
Less panic. Less yelling. Less stress for everyone.
Morning Routine
Our mornings are still not perfect.
There are still distracted moments, missing shoes, and random conversations that somehow happen right when we need to leave.
But having a simple routine gives us something steady to come back to.
Instead of the morning feeling completely chaotic, everyone knows what comes next.
Wake up. Brush teeth. Get dressed. Eat breakfast. Grab backpacks. Shoes on. Out the door.

Simple right?! I had to stay consistant as well and help them stay on track.
The biggest thing I learned is that routines are not about being a “perfect organized mom.”
They’re about reducing decision fatigue, lowering stress, and helping everyone start the day feeling a little more calm and connected.
So I had to remind myself to keep to the routine, encourage them when they first woke up to get into the bathroom to start brushing their teeth, then clothes so we can hang out in the kitchen or living room together.

Sounds silly but if I didnt we would all slack off and still be in pj’s until 15 mins before we were supposed to leave for school and that could be chaotic. The moment I would say let’s get our backpacks and head for the car – it would
Once the boys continually got up and by habit just brushed and dressed, we knew the next thing would be breakfast and cartoons but we had to know where our backpacks and sneakers are.
I truly do not know how they forget where backpacks and sneakers are, lol but it happens in my house.
Our mornings did get calmer, not perfect, but less chaotic

Its definately gotten better and I think the boys like it as well, we are consistant and we know what to expect from each other.
So remember, even one or two small routines can completely change the feeling in your home over time.
I hope this helps you as well.
Leave me a commnet what works for you.
